Fall Meeting at California Agriculture Museum

Woodland, CA


October 28, 2022

Museum Tour:  Prior to the start of the meeting, the members present were able to view Roger’s Farmall Cub Tractor which he brought on a trailer.  It was on display out in front of the museum.  The members also were given freedom to view the many excellent exhibits of tractors and equipment in the California Agriculture Museum at no cost to Chapter 14.

Call to Order:  President Lubiens called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m.

In Attendance: President Roger Lubiens, Susan Lubiens,  Todd Mara, Bill Simonton, Tim Buescher, Warren Berg, Richard Marshall and Jim Marshall

Introductions:  Roger asked each man present to tell of his finished or ongoing projects.

  • Roger: 500 acres of soybean bumper crop on his North Dakota property. Repairs to 1466 tractor and also 656 tractor.
  • Richard: UD-16 engine restored, UD-18 and UD-24 ongoing restorations; Farmall MD tractors, and Case baler ongoing.
  • Tim: Restoring an older Cub tractor.
  • Todd: In Merchant Marines currently visiting Chapter 14, Likes Cub tractors. Todd has tree and landscape business.
  • Bill: Has Cub, 2 Ford tractors, Farmall A.
  • Warren: Owns Oliver 66 and Cletrac and numerous other tractors.
  • Jim: Has John Deere B with Richard; is currently writing article for Harvester Highlights about Richard’s UD-16 stationary engine history and restoration. To be published in next issue of Harvester Highlights.

Secretary Report: Jim Marshall read the minutes of the previous meeting.

Treasurer Report: $8,706 in the treasury as of October 15, 2022.

Membership Report:

  • President Lubiens reported Chapter 14 currently has 208 paid members.
  • Unpaid memberships will expire April 30, 2023.


Foundation Report: Foundation currently has $9,110 in funds.  $800 in donations received in 2022.

Website:  The Chapter 14 Facebook account has recorded 115,000 visitors viewing our posts.

Old Business:

  • Review of past California Antique Farm Equipment Show, Tulare, CA. Was held April 23-24, 2022 and will be again next year April 22-23, 2023.
  • Review of recent Farm and Tractor Days, Rio Linda, CA. May 13-14 this past spring.
  • Best of the West Antique Equipment Show, Santa Margarita, CA – Memorial Day weekend.
  • Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, Vista, CA. Two shows per year. One is in the spring and one in the fall.
  • Bolt Museum – Oroville, CA. Warren told the group he has been there observing Mr. Bolt’s collection of thousands of wrenches in his collection, and Warren says it is huge.  Might take all day to see everything.

FFA Projects:

OAKDALEFarmall A completely restored.  The Farmall A project was reported in the Farm Show Magazine.  Oakdale FFA is starting on next project of a Farmall M tractor.

YUBA COUNTY CHARTER SCHOOL – Member Jeff McGill has volunteered to assist the Yuba County Charter School.  He assisted with the restoration of a Farmall Cub tractor donated by Darrell Taylor.  The restored tractor was returned in restored condition to Mr. Taylor.  Chapter 14 donated $1,000 to this effort.  It is the 40th tractor restoration sponsored by Chapter 14.

Chapter 14 will investigate schools where FFA projects were active in 2020-2022.


New Business and Shows:

  • National Auction, Macon, GA, Nov. 18-19, 2022
  • World Ag Show, Tulare, CA Feb 15-16, 2023. Case IH has declined to allow Chapter 14 to participate in their booth area.  It remains to be seen where Chapter 14 will be located.
  • IHC Collectors Winter Convention will be March 16-18, 2023 in Roanoke, VA.
  • California Antique Farm Equipment Show, April 22-23, 2023, Tulare, CA.
  • ATHS Central California Chapter truck show, April 29, 2023, Plymouth, CA.
  • Farm & Tractor Days, Dry Creek Road, Rio Linda, CA, May 12-13-2023
  • Red Power Roundup, June 15-17, 2023, Grand Island, NE. Home of Case-IH combines.  This event will be the 100th anniversary of Farmall Tractors.  Roger mentioned that this location will likely be the farthest West any past or future Red Power Roundup has taken place.  He plans to attend representing Chapter 14 and has encouraged members as they are able to do likewise.
  • Richard Marshall reported on Dufur Days which he attended. It was held this past August in Dufur, OR which is just south of The Dalles, OR.  It features antique farming methods using horses and steam tractors.  They had a wheat field which was being cut with a horse-drawn binder.  Sheaves of bound wheat were fed into a stationary thresher powered by a steam tractor.
  • Jim Marshall reported on the Great Oregon Steam Up held in Brooks, OR each summer. The events are held the last weekend of July and the first weekend of August on the property of Powerland Heritage Park.  There are 14 different museums on the property featuring hit and miss farm engines, steam sawmill, large engine building, fire truck museum, logging museum, Caterpillar and John Deere museums and antique auto and truck museums.  The Powerland Heritage Park is also open to the public from April to October on Wednesdays thru Sundays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Todd gave us a rundown and bit of discussion about the Fresno Scrapers which were widely used in the early days of California.
  • At the end of the meeting President Lubiens made a presentation of an ERTL toy IHC 1086 tractor to the person who came the furthest to this meeting. Jim Marshall was the lucky recipient.

Adjourn:  President Lubiens called for adjournment.  Richard moved to adjourn.  Jim seconded the motion.
